"Let It Be" Music Video
Motion graphics

This project is for the Motion Graphics class at BCIT. The objective is to create a music video using all the skills I have learned in the class. I chose to create a classic collage-style animation for the song "Let It Be" by the Beatles.
Project Date: April, 2024
Song Selection and Storyboard
I selected "Let It Be" because of its inspiring message and powerful lyrics. The song's theme gave me the idea of depicting life's long journey, encountering difficulties, and eventually finding peace. I created a storyboard to visualize this concept.

Prepare Assets
Edit the Song
The project required the video to be about one minute long. Therefore, I edited the song to make it shorter. The final edited version of the song is 1 minute and 15 seconds long, including the intro and outro, to ensure smooth transitions without abrupt fade-ins or fade-outs.
Visual Assets
I created various visual assets for the video.
- Drawn Assets: Ship, clouds, dragon and a seagull
- Adobe Stock Pictures: Lighthouse, globe, and background images

After Effect Technique
Title Scene:
- Created with the shape tool
- Applied a paper texture
It was a bit challenging to create a clean shape using the shape tool. I added roughened edges and a paper texture to the shape, which helped make it look like a piece of paper.
First Scene:
- Applied a paper-unfolding technique to the illustrations to make them look like collages
- Used the turn-page effect to a map for the transition
Camera View:
- Utilized 3D to show the camera moving away into the clouds and transitioning to the next scene
This was the most challenging part of the video creation. Controlling the camera movement was difficult, so I made several attempts to get it right. I also researched how other designers use the After Effects camera and watched several YouTube videos to improve my technique.
Chorus Scene:
- Used trim paths and a glow effect to create lightning
Final Scene:
- Used the puppet pin tool to animate the wings of a seagull illustration
